ImportanceThe printing press definitely has helped many people since is was first discovered by Gutenberg in about 1440. Its positive effect was that it spread information quickly and efficiently . This helped the society grow in reading on a public note. However it's important not just in how it spread information and opinions. Its important what types of information and opinions it was spreading. There were two main directions printing took.
The first printed books were religious in nature, as were most medieval books. They also where based off handwritten items, so that people would accept this new revolutionary way of copying books. Books stopped copying handwritten books such as lined paper to help the copiers and abbreviations to save time in copying. They also covered a larger variety of non religious topics that were more useful to the professional members of that time period. In my opinion the printing press is the most revolutionary thing ever seen. If you think about the bigger picture, the printing press saved so much valuable information that otherwise would have been lost in time. Since 1440 the printing press has saved countless pieces of history and lots of culture is based on the information that was saved.
